Topic abstract Injury management: Return-to-play and performance A Surgical Approach to Multi-Ligament Knee Injury Dr. Yusuf Hassan Multi-ligament knee injuries often resulting from high-energy trauma or knee dislocations, represent severe and complex orthopaedic challenges. This presentation provides a focused overview of the surgical management of these injuries, emphasizing the critical principles of a systematic approach. We will review the surgical techniques for addressing the cruciate and collateral ligaments, the role of anatomic repair versus reconstruction, and the necessity of addressing associated neurovascular and meniscal pathology. Finally, we will summarize evidence-based considerations for postoperative rehabilitation protocols and expected outcomes, underscoring that a well-planned, individualized surgical strategy is essential for restoring stability and function to the multi-ligament injured knee. Read the full schedule Multi-ligament knee injury Knee dislocation Injury grading Repair/reconstruction: one stage versus multistage Individualise every case Appropriate post surgery management Panel discussion Multi-ligament knee injuries are potentially career ending for athletes. Surgical management is either one stage or a multistage reconstruction surgical procedure approach with appropriate rehabilitation to return to play. The surgical strategy is influenced by injury severity with surgical experience and host factor consideration. The final return is guided by battery of fitness and strength testing after surgical treatment and rehabilitation.
