Dr Farzana Moosajee

Dr Farzana Moosajee has been diligent and compassionate both as a doctor and previously as a student when starting her undergraduate training in 2000. She received the top student class medal award in Medical Physiology in 2000 and the class medal for Virology in 2002 during her undergraduate years. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2005 obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree with honours and distinction in the pre-clinical examinations. She completed her internship at Helen Joseph and Coronation Hospital (Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital) in her hometown of Johannesburg. She returned to Cape Town and completed her community service in 2007 working as a medical officer in the South African Military Health Services and was based at the Institute for Maritime Medicine.
In 2008, Dr Moosajee joined the Department of Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital where her passion and love for internal medicine and rheumatology blossomed. After working as a medical officer for 2 years, she joined the medical registrar rotation at her Alma Mata, UCT in 2010 and successfully completed the Fellowship of the College of Physicians examination in 2014. She then completed the Certificate of rheumatology examination for physicians in 2016 through her Alma Mata, UCT.
Dr Moosajee worked as a consultant specialist physician for 2 years in C15 Emergency unit at Groote Schuur hospital and subsequently spent a year as a specialist physician in the Department of Medicine at Khayelitsha District Hospital. In 2019 she took up a position as a consultant rheumatologist and specialist physician in the Division of Rheumatology at Tygerberg Academic Hospital. She still maintains close links with and does outreach to Khayelitsha District Hospital.
Dr Moosajee is currently working towards completing her Master’s in philosophy in Health Professionals Education (MPhil HPE) at Stellenbosch University. She is involved in clinical and academic medicine as well as training undergraduate and postgraduate students. She is also an examiner at the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa examinations. Dr Moosajee is skilled at managing the spectrum of both medical and rheumatological diseases. Her interests include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, osteoporosis, pain amplification syndromes and connective tissue diseases.
