Prepatellar Bursitis

Management

Non-operative management:
  • NSAIDS, ice, compression and aspiration
  • Local injection with local anaesthetic and corticosteroid and sclerotherapy is a consideration for chronic cases
Operative management:
  • Bursa excision in select chronic cases
  • Infected Prepatellar bursa requires antibiotics and surgical incision and drainage. Staphylococcus Aureus is responsible for 80% of the infection.
